Lytess Slimming Leggings and Shapewear

Apparently the modern age is upon us—you can actually wear clothes that make you skinnier, according to Lytess, the manufacturer of Lytess slimming leggings, made with a fabric that contains nutrients to melt fat and moisturize your skin. I used to think that the Hypercolor shirts of the 1980s were cool, but this really takes the cake (off of you! ha!). How Does Lytess Shapewear Work, and Does It Give Good Results? The fabric that Lytess uses is cutting-edge. The material actually contains micro-capsules of caffeine and Shea butter in its fibers. When you wear the slimming leggings, panties, or bike shorts, the material rubs against your skin and deposits the nutrients. We haven’t personally tried the any of these “cosmetotextiles,” but the manufacturer’s testing showed that you can lose a couple inches off of your stomach and hips if you wear the leggings for 8 hours a day for 21 days. We’re curious to hear from any of our blog readers who might have tried any of the Lytess products and seen results! Check out the company’s video below: Where can you buy Lytess slimming leggings and how much do they cost? Buy Lytess leggings on Amazon.com for about $70 USD with FREE shipping. What Kind of Clothing Does Lytess Manufacture? Lytess has created a variety of slimming clothing, including panties, bike shorts, leggings, capri leggings, bras, and camisoles. Some of the items like the corrective waistband was created with new mothers in mind, helping them firm and tone… more

Glow in the Dark Nail Polish

Glow in the dark nail polish is something cool and different! It’s perfect for nighttime activities, Halloween makeup, or just for fun! A few different nail polish brands have created glow in the dark nail polish as part of their nail polish collections. OPI “Glow-Ink in the Dark” One of these beauty brands is OPI, which has created the “OPI Tattoo Ta-boo” mini polish set for Halloween. This set has four nail polish colors, with a bonus of a few silly Halloween temporary tattoos. “Witch Arm?” (Black nail polish) “Tattoo You Want Candy?”  (Orange nail polish) “I Love Mummy” (White nail polish) Glow-ink in the Dark” (Purple glow in the dark nail polish that looks purple during daylight and glows green at night!)   Sally Hansen “U Glow Girl” Sally Hansen is another beauty brand that offers a glow in the dark polish. Their polish is called “U Glow Girl” and has tiny specks of glitter in it. Tips and Tricks One thing to note is that most glowing nail polish needs to be applied in a few coats, and not used as a top coat, but as the primary color. Black nail polish is another popular Halloween nail polish color but your glowing polish might not work as well if you layer it on top of a black polish. Most things that glow in the dark also work best if they are exposed to the sun or other light source for a while before using at night. You can… more

Philosophy Kabuki Brush

Use a Kabuki Brush to Perfect Your Makeup

What is a Kabuki Brush? Kabuki is a type of classical theater that began in the 1600s in Japan. Kabuki theater featured performers with flawless, elaborate makeup, which is how today’s brushes inherited their name. A good kabuki brush can help you perfect your makeup application. Kabuki brushes are usually wide in diameter with very soft bristles, but you can also find a flat kabuki brush depending on the makeup effect you’re trying to achieve. Rounded bristles will give a softer, more blended look than flat bristles. The handle on a typical kabuki brush is usually short and squat, fitting nicely in the palm of your hand, but they are also available in longer lengths. For applying makeup on the go, you can also use a retractable kabuki brush which will keep the bristles protected. The Ecotools kabuki brush is an affordable and popular retractable brush you can purchase for about $7-$10 USD. Most popularly, kabuki brushes have become the go-to tool for applying mineral makeup. They can also be used to apply any other makeup that needs to cover large sections of your face evenly and flawlessly, like loose powder, blush, or bronzer. Best Kabuki Brush If you’re trying to find the best kabuki brush on the market, there are a few characteristics the brush should have. First, when you swirl the brush around and around on the back of your hand, there should be no shedding of the brush bristles; if you test the brush and you notice… more

The Best Nail Polish Brands

OPI by Katy Perry

Most gals I know love nail polish—it’s something that lets us express ourselves and pick a color as wild or conservative as we feel! This is the case with most makeup, and why the beauty and cosmetics industries do so well. It’s okay if  you can’t decide whether you should stay blond or become a brunette—you can still change your nail polish! But what makes a nail polish truly a GREAT nail polish, anyway? Here is a guide to our favorites… What Do All of the Best Nail Polish Brands Have in Common?   A Skin-Friendly, Non-Toxic Formula Obviously, those most at risk for high exposure to nail polish chemicals are the nail technicians working in salons on a daily basis. The best nail polish brands have worked diligently to remove toxins from their color formulas, even though the FDA claims that many of these ingredients are safe when used as directed and in small amounts. This should make conscientious consumers happy. Cosmetics, including nail polish, are regulated by the FDA to ensure safety, but some say that three primary chemicals commonly found in nail polish put the consumer at risk. Specifically, these chemicals are dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde and toluene. Dibutyl phthalate is used in many soft plastics, and gives nail polish a more plastic-y feel (minimizing brittleness and chipping). Some say that this chemical increases reproductive and developmental risks. Formaldehyde can cause an allergic reaction in some individuals, and is used in polish hardening agents. It is believed that… more

The Chi Hair Straightener Guide

Chi Hair Straightener

Why Are Flat Irons Such a Popular Hair Styling Tool? Hair straighteners, also sometimes referred to as flat irons, produce beautiful results in styling straight hair, with less work than using only a brush and blow dryer. “Ironing” the hair smooths the follicles and creates a pretty, glossy sheen. Why Choose the Farouk Chi Hair Straightener? The Chi professional hair straightener is well known for its ease of use, consistent results, and modern technology. Digital Temperature Control There are a few features available on certain Chi hair straightener models that make the brand a popular choice for professional hair stylists. One of the features of a Chi hair straightener is the adjustable digital temperature control. Since all hair is different, it’s important to have the option to raise or lower the hair straightener temperature. Hair that is fine, colored, highlighted, and chemically processed is more delicate, and should be straightened at a lower temperature than coarse or textured hair. A digital microchip in each Chi hair straightener helps maintain the set temperature for consistent results. Chi 44 Ceramic Technology A high-tech ceramic formula that produces high shine and sleek results. Chi Nano Silver Technology Nano Silver is a nano technology that help kill accumulated bacteria on styling tools like the Chi hair straightener. Other Chi Hair Straightener Features Chi flat irons are designed to be ergonomic and to quickly heat up—this saves your wrists and saves you time as you use their products.
