The popularity of mineral makeup has exploded over the past few years! Women everyone have been wanting to wear makeup that is healthy and natural for their skin, and major beauty brands have been listening. Nearly every high-end and drugstore makeup brand has at least one mineral product in their collection. If you’ve been thinking about using mineral makeup, we’ve come up with a list of our top three favorite mineral makeup brands, and the reasons why we like each. Check them out!
#1. Bare Escentuals bareMinerals
There is no contest. Bare Escentuals bareMinerals is the hands-down marketplace leader among the best mineral makeup brands on the market. The visionary bareMinerals creator, Leslie Blodgett, joined Bare Escentuals in 1994 and was determined to bring a natural makeup line to market in 1995. BareMinerals was born and the popularity of it began through word of mouth and a very successful sales campaign on QVC. BareMinerals and other Bare Escentuals products have won nearly every beauty award under the sun. Here are a few worth mentioning:
Must-Have Product: Bare Escentuals BareMinerals Original SPF 15 Foundation
Cost: Approx. $24 USD on Amazon.com with Free Shipping
Awards: Allure Reader’s Choice Award, Glamour magazine’s Glammy Beauty Award, “Best Foundation” award from magazines like InStyle, Seventeen, Women’s Health, Elle, Teen Vogue, and more!
Our favorite thing about the bareMinerals makeup collection is that the company offers a variety of different kits, including the “Get Started” kit which has everything you need to start using mineral foundation. This collection is sold in all major beauty stores, online, and is easy to find. The DVD instruction is also very helpful, giving new users the chance to get familiar with the best way to apply the makeup. Last summer I bought a specially-priced seasonal kit that actually had one of my favorite products in it, the rosy-colored bareMinerals Radiance powder, which gives my skin a healthy color and also works as a blush. I always feel good about wearing their makeup because I know they care about using the finest mineral ingredients. Their wide collection of makeup colors is another reason why we’re voting Bare Escentuals number one. Also, their Mineral Veil product is another one of our favorites—it leaves our skin silky soft when we apply it on top of the foundation.
#2. Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup
If you want the best mineral makeup, Jane Iredale has probably created it. It isn’t cheap, but once you try it, you’ll know why! Personally, I think Jane’s background in the movie and TV production worlds and her background working with models and Hollywood makeup artists set the quality standard for her mineral makeup line. This makeup is popular among estheticians, doctors, and dermatologists because their patients with sensitive skin can use it. For instance, the Liquid Minerals™ Foundation has tiny capsules of active ingredients suspended in an aloe vera and vegetable glycerin gel. This soothes the skin while evening out skin tone at the same time. The makeup also blocks UV rays and contains pharmaceutical-grade ingredients. The foundation in this line comes as a liquid, pressed powder, or loose powder, which is sure to please just about everyone.
One of our favorite things about this collection is that you can order a sample kit for about $28 USD—for light, medium, or dark skin tones, which comes complete with Amazing Base® and PurePressed Base, PurePressed® Blush (I LOVED the color in the Light kit…perfect for almost anybody), PurePressed® Eye Shadow (the one I tried was a gorgeous light pink), Circle\Delete®, LipDrink™, PureMoist™ LipColour, and mini brushes, all in a handy box that can go in your purse, or travel bag. Take advantage of this little kit before emptying your wallet on the full-size products. I didn’t think that any other company could compete with the bareMinerals foundation, but the coverage was so smooth and even, I fell in love with Jane Iredale’s products on the spot. These are definitely premium cosmetics at a premium price (almost twice the cost of the bareMinerals foundation), but it’s totally worth it if you can spare the money.
Must-Have Product: Jane Iredale PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation
Cost: Approx. $9 USD for a compact and $36 USD for each powder refill
Awards: Recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation
#3. gloMinerals Makeup
The final contender in our Top 3 list of best mineral makeup brands is gloMinerals, because of their triple-milled natural ingredients and vitamin-packed formulas (their foundations contain vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, and vitamin E). glominerals makeup is a popular makeup line at many spas because it is safe for the skin and doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals, and its ingredients also help block harmful UV rays. This makeup line also offers both a liquid mineral foundation and a mineral tinted moisturizer, which the bareMinerals line currently does not have. gloMinerals emphasizes natural beauty and we think their makeup line accomplishes that. And it’s good for your skin.
Must-Have Product: gloMinerals Pressed Base Powder
Cost: Approx. $32 USD on Amazon.com with Free Shipping
Awards: “Best Pressed Mineral Foundation,” NewBeauty Magazine
